The gang, triumphant, tells you to dress in warm, comfortable clothing and come downstairs as soon as you’re ready. You'll probably be back in time for seminar but there's nothing important happening in class today anyway. They confiscate your phone so that you can’t guess where you’re going. You all pile into Lucy’s car, Bobby is navigating but he won’t tell you the final destination. You’re getting farther and farther away from Princeton and further into rural New Jersey. The leaves are changing, it’s a beautiful drive. All of a sudden, Lucy takes an exit that Bobby didn’t tell her to make.

“Lucy, do we need gas or something? Our exit isn’t for another 20 miles…”
”No, I just want to take a little detour.”
“We don’t have any extra time for detours, we have to get to you-know-where by 11!”
“Oh we have time! And they’ll wait for us if we’re a few minutes late!”
Bobby and Lucy argue briefly until Ellie says,
“Christian, why don’t you decide, should we do Lucy’s idea which she added at the very last minute, or stick to the plan?”

“I guess, we might as well add another surprise, I mean I don’t know where we’re headed or what the appointment is for, so… yeah let’s do Lucy’s thing.”

“I don’t know, Bobby seems pretty determined to stick to the plan, I think we should do that. Maybe we can see the detour on the way back.”
